Welcome to the Year 4 Blog.
Our Blog is where we will be sharing all the wonderful things that happen in Year 4. It will be written at least once a week, but the day may vary as we do interesting things on different days.
This term our Topic is Raiders and Traders. A historical topic that will help us to understand how England developed. As per usual it started with two WOW days.
Our Wow day began with drama as we pretended to be Saxons rowing to England on a boat. Children had to think about the effort and feelings that they must of gone through to travel all the way from Germany. They later tried to communicate without speaking, which they realised wasn’t as easy as they thought as they learned that they had to use actions/motions to get their meaning across.
On Wednesday the children wrote out their names and sentences using the runic alphabet, the written language of the Saxons and began to design shields and weapons for raiding. In Earhart, we looked at where the Saxons and the Vikings come in on the time line of the England.
The children in Armstrong have been working hard creating their Saxon weapons and shields out of paper, cardboard and paper mache. More work and artefacts will be created throughout the term to showcase at the end to parents/guardians.
The children of Earhart showed lots of the school values as they went swimming for the first time. They all showed great confidence, resilience, independence and responsibility especially on the walk to and from the leisure centre.
Remind the children that they need PE Kits need to be in school all week and that reading books and records are needed in school every day. Homework is set on Friday and needs to be in by Wednesday morning.
Mr Colson and Miss Reader are both extremely pleased at how the summer term has started. The children are showing greater maturity and are keen to learn and have fun at Blackthorn Academy.
