This term the children will be exploring ‘Towers, Tunnels and Turrets’. During this term our learning will be focused around castles and knights as the children learn about medieval times. Throughout the topic children will learn about how and why castles were built, the people who lived and worked there as well as the attack and defence strategies used.
Our WOW days allowed the children to experience what it was like during the medieval times as they dined on a medieval banquet and learnt some historic dances movements. The children loved researching, planning, designing and evaluating their own castles and shields! We were also very lucky to have a special visitor, Mr Dragon, were they rehearsed asking questions and exploring how to use a variety of question words.
Throughout the term the children will be focusing on developing their skills in maths, and we will revisit place value, addition and subtraction and measuring time. Children will continue with their daily RWI sessions or English lessons to develop their reading, writing and comprehension skills. In the afternoons children again have English lessons, which this term will focus on recounts, narrative and letters, as well as their weekly spelling, punctuation and grammar lessons on a Monday. In Science the children will be continuing to explore and investigate living things and their habitat. The geography lessons allow the children to learn about amazing structures from around the world!
